NZ Steel bearing replacement

Heavy Industry, Precise Lift: HTC at New Zealand Steel
Just minutes from Waiuku, one of New Zealand’s largest steel mills faced a major challenge: a collapsed bearing on key plant machinery had brought operations to a halt. The solution required precision, safety, and strength — the perfect job for HTC’s Synchronised Lift System.
The Setup
HTC’s team arrived on-site with the Sync Lift loaded and ready. Careful preparation was critical:
Rams were positioned for optimal lift points.
Encoders and measuring tools were engineered into place to ensure accuracy.
Hoses and sensor cables were set up and checked, kept clear of any hazards.
Only once every precaution was in place did the lift begin.
The Lift
Raising the collapsed bearing carrier wasn’t about speed — it was about precision.
Each movement was closely monitored to ensure perfect alignment.
As the carrier rose, HTC worked to keep it straight and stable.
Once at height, the load was mechanically blocked, taking the pressure off the rams.
This gave the steel mill’s maintenance team the access they needed to replace the damaged bearing.
The Lowering
With the repair complete, the lowering process began. It was faster than the lift — but demanded just as much care.
Getting bolts and holes perfectly aligned required patience and accuracy. Once secured, the machinery was whole again.
The Outcome
From setup to disassembly, the project showcased how HTC’s Synchronised Lift System combines efficiency, control, and safety in even the most demanding industrial environments.
For the steel mill, it meant a swift return to production. For HTC, another successful demonstration of technology built for New Zealand’s toughest challenges.
